Casting continues. I’ve done a bunch of virtual auditions over the last week or so. There is some real serious acting talent in the DMV, and I’ve only scratched the surface. I’ve been completely impressed with the actors. It gets me excited about what we can do.
One of my chief activities now is finding locations — and one key location in particular, that will be the primary shooting location. There are a lot of requirements, so I don’t expect it to be a quick ‘n easy search.
The scripting continues as well. I’m building a lot of backstory for my main characters, which is crucial for my writing process. I need to know who these people were before I created them. If that sounds counter-intuitive, you’re right — it is. But it’s also true. A writer creates characters, and then has all kinds of ideas about who they are, and are not. The backstory, however, leads in many different directions, and helps define the character for the writer.
What I’m hoping is that my actors will take the basic backstory and build on it. I want them to know who these people are, maybe even better than me.
That’s it for now. Onward!
